David Cowan has worked alongside the NHS England Social Prescribing team as an expert advisor and Regional Facilitator supporting the implementation and scaling of social prescribing since 2018.
In this role he has provided subject matter expertise in a range of areas to NHS England personalised care regional teams and the national NHS England Social Prescribing team. Taking a quality improvement approach to support innovation and learning. His extensive knowledge, experience, and connection to a wide range of key stakeholders regionally and nationally, have been invaluable in helping to mainstream social prescribing and community-based approaches.
His in-depth knowledge of primary care and health systems more broadly has also been significant in providing bespoke support to Primary Care Networks and Integrated Care Systems. This includes practical support to embed the three personalised care roles: Social Prescribing Link Workers; Health and Wellbeing Coaches and Care Coordinators. Addressing recruitment and retention issues and wider mitigation of programme risks and workforce development.
A highly respected leader within the field of social prescribing and personalised care, David has built a national reputation on authenticity and his willingness to help even with the most challenging of issues.
